Well, there are lots of things I like about this country. I'll take this opportunity to list a few: 1. Politness and patience of english people (few may disagree with me) 2. English tv productions like Midsummer Murders, Green Green Grass or the older ones like Only Fools and Horses or Fawlty Towers. I also love Have I got News for You and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. (Yes, I'm telly addict) 3. Roast dinner and fried breakfast. 4. Indian take-aways - apparently you don't get them like this in India. 5. Lovely castles, which you can visit with your family. 6. Last but not least my lovely english husband and my two half english children, who make living here all I could've dreamt of. So those are my favourites. Who's next? |

Thanks, Aga
I'll go next then. Likes: 1. Certain foods, for example: fish and chips, Indian take-aways (not really English food but available in England 2. People; although not everyone is friendly and open, there are some real "characters" who are the most friendly, warm and helpful people you can meet - even to total strangers! 3. English humour - like the poster above, I also enjoy english comedies; "Little Britain", "Only Fools and Horses" - old but still funny 4. Pop music - in my opinion, English (British) artists are some of the most talented around 5. Greenery - mostly because of the weather, I am told (as I have never been) that Ireland is even more green 6. Customer service - the fact that you can phone up for information or to sort out a problem, and 99% of the time people are polite and helpful. Who's next? Don't worry if your English is not very good, this is meant to be fun |

Before I came to live in this country I didn't realise that the gratest bands are british. Even once I've asked my english colleague how come people living in the country where it's always raining have such musical talent. He jokingly replied that because of the weather there is not much to do except for making love and making music. I'm still blushing... |

I personally enjoy the most the english sence of staying together, focused in the living room of the house. Every time I delay my comming down there is somebody, most frequently a girl, to come upstairs and ask: "Andrew, are you OK? Why don't you join us downstairs?" There is not much help explaining them I would rather prefer to read a book or provide some additional translation work at the computer. Primarly it made me angry, but on the long run, since I got "the english social feeling", I really enjoy it. This is the most thing I miss while visiting Poland. I estimate this is on of very happy english social facilities.

Sounds familiar, Andrew
Everyone is expected to stay downstairs, moving between the kitchen and the living room/lounge area. Staying upstairs when other people (family or not) in the middle of the day is like saying "I don't want to be around you" or "I'm upset (read: you upset me)". Maybe it stems from the English "go upstairs to your bedroom right now and stay there!" which was often said to children after they had done something naughty or been a bit cheeky - i.e. going/staying upstairs on your own while the rest of the family is downstairs is generally associated with being punished. |

and now, something completely different...
the phrase I like most: ar you working hard or hardly working? Grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.
