- The first immigrant to arrive in Britain would have been early homo sapiens approximately 25,000 years ago.
- The Beaker people, the tribe most likely to have been behind the construction of Stonehenge and one of the first waves of mass immigration to the UK, came from the Rhine valley approximately 1,000 years before the Romans.
- What we now call the Celts, often perceived by many to be some of the earliest inhabitants of these isles, did not even arrive until approximately 100 years BC and originally came from an area east of the Alps.
- Even the Angles, the origin of the word England, came from what is now central Denmark along with the Jutes and Saxons. Had the monk and historian Bede not written his "History of the English Church" Winder suggests we might well have all grown up in a country called Jutland or Saxony.
- Britain and Britons only exist as words because the Romans decided to name us so after the Brythonics, one of the many various multi-ethnic tribes that resisted their numerous invasions and occupation. Other tribes having a pop at Julius Caesar's armies were the Belgae and the Brigantes - we might have ended up being Belgians and Brigands.
- The Roman armies that invaded Britain brought some of the first non-white faces to our shores. Their armies may have been controlled by Rome but were made up of significant numbers of North Africans and people from what is now the Middle East. Archaeologists have even found the skull of an African girl in an Anglo-Saxon burial ground in Suffolk.
- It was a Danish monarch, King Cnut, that in 1019 finally got round to uniting the country that became what is now Britain and it wasn't until 1399 with the accession of King Henry IV that Britain was finally ruled by an English speaking monarch

Ja czytuje ale chyba nic ambitnego....kryminaly.Choc ostatnio z braku laku muszer sie zadowolic czytywaniem Detektywa.Jakos nie przepadam za S/F.Zdecydowanie wole przeczytac ksiazke niz obejrzec film(mam za zle sobie ze Forresta Gump"a ogladalem),to samo chyba z Milczeniem Owiec,Tozsamosc Bourne"a.Macie jakies ciekawe kryminaly to dajcie tytuly

Wlasnie skonczylam czytac "A thousand splendid suns" Khaled Hosseini.
Naprawde mozna polecic, ja przypadkowo zaczelam czytac, i nie moglam odlozyc. Historia twoch kobiet w Afganistanie, przed, podczas i po rzadach Talibanu.

2) "Szyfr Szekspira" J.L.Carrell ....dla wytrwałych - lubiacych cieżkie powieści- jak okreslil to moj mąz
3)"Bractwo Świętego Całunu" J.Navarro .....trzyma w nspieciu do ostatniej strony..

Terry Pratchett "Johnny i zmarli". Przypomniałem sobie to po paru latach. I całkiem inne wrażenia z lektury. Tak, jakbym czytał opis miasteczka, w którym mieszkam. Polecam każdemu, kto myśli o wyjeździe do UK. Mniej będzie może pytań, jak tu jest. Oto moje zasady. Jeśli wam się nie podobają, to mam też inne...

Ciezko napisac wiecej bo dopiero zaczalem czytac, ale zapowiada sie niezle.
Zapowiada sie ciekawie, moze skusze sie jak wypatrze gdzies w bibliotece. Carpe diem.

czytam, czytam i czytam - prawie zawsze i wszędzie gdzie mogę, przeważnie czytam 3-4 książki równolegle i powoli gromadzę już niezłą biblioteczkę w obu językach
Cmielewską kocham - przeczytałam praktycznie wszystko, większość po kilka/naście razy - mam sporo jej e-booków jakby kto chciał i nie męczy go czytanie z kompa mogę podesłać mailem...
z fantastyki polecam staaaaare klasyki podsunięte mi przez tatkę:
Anne McCaffrey - seria o Jeźdźcach Smoków z Pern
Clifford Simak - Czas jest najprostsza rzeczą oraz
Formy Chaosu i Broń Chaosu - Kapp'a
